Festa do Sinal: Capoeira Demo & Brazilian Party in Athens,GA

Our good friend Jasper has asked us if can participate in a Capoeira demostration in Athens, GA this Saturday 2/27 @ 11pm. Apparently, this will be the first Brazilian party Athens has seen in a long time. The party will be located @ CINE 234 West Hancock Avenue. Everyone is invited to come, so if you're interested let Juba or I know as soon as possible.

A Capoeira is Astute: You gotta study to improve

I first mentioned this in class the other night, but I thought I might blog about it to share with more people. Sorry there are no good links.

When I first started teaching in Midtown at Eagle Claw Kung Fu, there was a gungho guy that trained with us. He was super gungho. It was always a please having him in class, then one day he decided to train with another group. To us he had just disappeared. Subsequently, he became a personal trainer and quit capoeira. Probably a year after he quit, Guile met up with him and asked him why he quit. His explanation was, "Juba doesn't explain things enough."

Capoeira is awesome for women

I just ran across this article entitled Capoeira, Fitness, and Feminism. I'm not 100% sure what the author means when she writes, "Some people are committed to bringing feminism to fitness, and vice versa," but I certainly think that what is happening recently in capoeira classes in Atlanta is impressive.

Mestre Sabiá da Bahia On Capoeira Today

Those who attended workshops by Mestre Sabiá da Bahia for Ginga Mundo Atlanta's 3rd batizado had the pleasure of listening to a profound capoeira mestre talk about fundamentals, tradition, evolution, and the essence of capoeira. For just 27 short years in capoeira, you might think he had been around for much longer. Students and teachers alike asked some good, some tough questions, and one answer in particular really caught my attention.
