Mestranda Edna Lima talks about
After meeting Mestranda Edna Lima at the Miami Mundial in 2009, I was immediately impressed with the level of intellectualism that she brought along with her experience. It seems that she is often introduced as an inspiration for women capoeiristas, which of course she should be, but I believe that she's an inspiration for all capoeiristas.
I found on her website a page wherein someone interviewed Mestranda Edna Lima after I met her. Here's a sample from that interview on how she has used capoeira for what it is really for: Bringing people together and creating positive, social change. Just read it.

Mestre Sabiá da Bahia On Capoeira Today
Those who attended workshops by Mestre Sabiá da Bahia for Ginga Mundo Atlanta's 3rd batizado had the pleasure of listening to a profound capoeira mestre talk about fundamentals, tradition, evolution, and the essence of capoeira. For just 27 short years in capoeira, you might think he had been around for much longer. Students and teachers alike asked some good, some tough questions, and one answer in particular really caught my attention.

Capoeira is a fight for the weak, and Haiti is in need
Mestre Maurão of São Paolo was at the 2009 Mundial in Miami. He lectured us on there and shared a lot of incredible information that I blogged about earlier as Lessons from the Mundial 2009. He said something that summarized my feelings about capoeira and why I keep playing, Capoeira was always, is, and will always be the fight for the weak by the stronger.

Quite a Good Article: "Capoeira: Dance, bout or a fluid mix of both"
I read an article, "Capoeira: Dance, bout or a fluid mix of both" this morning from The Sacramento Bee about capoeira. The article is probably one of the best general articles about capoeira I've seen. I had to add this post to so many categories because this article touches on a lot of capoeira's aspects. I'm quite impressed by the author. If you're at all interested in capoeira, you should check it out.
I'll quote some of my favorite bits below.

For Whom Do You Play Capoeira?
A student from another group here in Atlanta asked me a misguided question that has an important answer. Honestly, this is something I'd never really thought of before, and looking back, I think his question was actually a decent one.
