Capoeira Decatur participates in Atlanta Streets Alive!

Poster from Atlanta Streets Alive May 2010. It reads,

This Sunday, May 23rd, Capoeira Decatur is hosting a capoeira demonstration and free capoeira class for participants at the Atlanta Streets Alive! event. If you aren't familiar with the event, it's a really cool concept.

From their site, they write, "Imagine a street full of people of all ages and backgrounds, walking, biking, creating and laughing, together. A street temporarily closed to cars, but open to people." Imagine those people doing capoeira as well.

Capoeira Decatur is going to set up at Edgewood Ave near Hilliard St. We'll be out in full force, with instruments to boot. This is going to be a jam-packed capoeira weekend!

Leãozinhos Capoeira Kids Program starts tomorrow

If you've attended capoeira classes in Decatur recently, especially on Saturdays, you've likely noticed the increasing number of kids in class. I'm not sure if it's the season, or what, but it prompted us to open up two additional classes per week, just for kids.

We've dubbed the program "Leãozinhos", or little lions. Yes, I stole the idea from Instrutor Mico's Macaquinhos program which runs in the San Francisco Bay Area and also ran in Miami, Florida. The macaquinhos program inspired more than just the name of our Leãozinhos program.

About the Capoeira Uniform

Capoeira Decatur started its first beginner's program a few weeks back, and it couldn't be going better. The student's are all very diverse from one another, from a six year old to some in their 40s, and a wide range of backgrounds to compliment. The one thing that they all have in common is what brought them together with me: The desire to learn capoeira.

New capoeira classes at Georgia Tech

Starting May 24th, Capoeira Decatur is opening up a new training location: At Georgia Tech. The plan is to have these programs run per semester just as we've done at Emory, and hopefully we'll see the program at Georgia Tech grow. Tech classes are offered through Tech's G.I.T. FIT program, and these classes are open to anyone with a buzz card for $60 for the entire semester.

First ever beginner's capoeira program starts on April 5th

The end of last week, Capoeira Decatur launched the first ever beginner's program. I'm personally very excited about this program. It provides value to anyone who wants to learn capoeira. I wanted to take a moment to just talk about it a little.

Before, when someone decided that they wanted to try class, this is the process she'd go through:
