What to expect
We are fortunate to have many new students joining our community. In order for everyone to feel comfortable in the space it is important that we communicate what is expected of students. Please familiarize yourself with our academy etiquette.
• Be 10 to 15 minutes early to class. Late entry to a class is extremely disruptive to the energy we are trying to create and it sets the wrong impression for others. Respect your time, the time of the teacher, and the time of your fellow students.
• Come to practice with an open, positive mind, and ready to improve every time you train.
• Turn off your cell phones before entering the academy or leave them in your car.
• Sign in at front desk before class.
• Refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or strong essential oils. Come showered and clean. Fingernails and toenails should be clean and neatly trimmed.
• Always come in a clean uniform. No exceptions. If you need extra uniforms, see the front desk person to purchase them.
• If you have a health issue (illness, injury or medical condition), please arrive early enough to speak with your teacher about it before class.
• You may train barefoot or with shoes in the academy. Your training shoes must be used only for training here so that outside dirt and objects are not brought on the training floor (don't train in your everyday street shoes). If you wear glasses, please remove them or wear contacts. Capoeira is a martial art and broken glasses might injure yourself or others. Please throw away any chewing gum. All jewelry should be removed. Small stud earrings are ok.
• No pressure is put on doing every move. Everyone's body is different. Some movements might be too hard for you in the beginning. No problem! Try your best and attempt the movement at a later date when you are stronger or more flexible.
• No experience or flexibility is required to practice capoeira. Capoeira is for everyone and all body types!
• We have bottled water for sale for $1. You may bring your own drinks as well.
• HAVE FUN, explore, learn and enjoy your time here!
